One Day in Maine

It was a whirlwind trip, but I went to Maine over the weekend to get one step closer to finishing photography for Jennifer Megyesi's book The Joy of Keeping a Root Cellar. I met Jenn's friend Donna Kausen in Addison, Maine, located northeast of Bar Harbor on the coast (an 800-mile round trip from Vermont...). Donna and two of her friends grow a lot of their own food and have an amazing root cellar. They treated us to a seafood feast at the end of the day — well worth the trip!

From above, Bradford Jones plays in the slush on a warm Sunday afternoon at the lobster pound in Addison, Maine; lobsters are set aside for customers at the pound; Jennifer Megyesi and Donna Kausen prepare dinner in Kausen's log cabin.

Looking Back at Vermont

Mark your calendars! If you're interested in history and photography,
Nancy Price Graff will be speaking at the Tunbridge Library on Friday, January 15, at 7 p.m., showing photographs from her book Looking Back at Vermont.

From 1936-42, photographers from the Farm Security Administration —
Carl Mydans, Arthur Rothstein, Russell Lee, Marion Post, Edwin and Louise Rosskam, Jack Delano, Fritz Henle and Al Freeman — travelled across Vermont to document its rural culture. Price Graff's lecture consists of a slide show of 1,600 images of their work.

It's not to be missed! For more information on the free event, call the library at 802-889-9404 or go to www.tunbridgelibrary.org.

'Geoff Hansen Photography' on Facebook

There's now a page on Facebook featuring my photography. Search for 'Geoff Hansen Photography' (or click here) to sign up, post comments and leave reviews. While it looks a little skimpy right now, I'll be adding updates about my wedding photography, book and newspaper work.
